Riga: Places to Visit and Things to Do





Among the Baltic cities, Riga (Latvia) is one of the most popular travel destinations in the region. People from across regions such as Europe, America, Asia and other parts of the world. Riga is easy to reach to take a short break. It could be a fascinating attraction in your Baltic Tours.
There are many things to see in Riga. We discuss here a few.
St Peter’s church: There are numerous churches in Riga and some cathedrals. However, St Peter’s spire is exceptionable. Climb the stairs, or take the elevator – you reach the top of the church. You can take a great view of the red bricks and cobbled streets of in the Old Town, the beautiful spectacle of rive Daugava River splitting the city into two parts – right and left banks.
Art Nouveau: Art Nouveau is located on the north of the Old Town. The grey stone and the red brick in the Old stone give way to a colourful and tall building built in the 19th century. There is a lot of sculpture. Do include this in your Baltic Tour.
Sun Museum: The Sun Museum is a special museum attributed to different views on the sun that prevail in different countries and cultures. The most important thing in the museum is the 400 depictions of the sun. It’s a good place for learning astronomy.
Have Riga Black Balsam: As part of beverages in Riga, you may explore, Black Balsam – the traditional drink of Riga. The drink is said to have the taste of a medicine and people say Russian Empress Catherine II fell ill when visiting Latvia and she was cured just by drinking Riga Black Balsam. But be very careful. It’s very strong liquor.
Shopping: The Riga Central Market is said to be the biggest market in Europe. Odds are that you may get things that you never expected to get here. It’s not just for tourist but Latvians as well.
Nightlife: You’d like to enjoy the nightlife in Riga. Riga is, indeed, best known for its nightlife. Tourists, as well as locals, participate in karaoke singing at Rock Cafe. However, it’s not a loud partying. There are also many clubs to enjoy the nightlife.
